About

Also known as: Apocaliptica, Apocalyptia, アポカリプティカ

Three classically trained cellists from Helsinki playing heavy metal without a guitar in sight, that is Apocalyptica's whole deal, and it works. Formed in 1993 at the Sibelius Academy, they started out covering Metallica on four cellos before gradually building a catalogue of original neoclassical metal. Their debut, Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, got the world's attention, and they never really looked back. Over four million albums sold later, the band is Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Perttu Kivilaakso. The guest vocalist list across their albums reads like a who's who of rock: Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Ville Valo of HIM, Lauri Ylönen of the Rasmus, Gavin Rossdale, and Brent Smith of Shinedown, among others. Their single "I Don't Care" with Adam Gontier made them the first Finnish band to top the US Billboard rock chart. Worlds Collide even features Till Lindemann of Rammstein delivering a David Bowie cover entirely in German. The range is genuinely remarkable.
