Few pop punk bands from the mid nineties managed to crack the mainstream the way Good Charlotte did. The Waldorf, Maryland quartet built their reputation through relentless touring and a knack for anthemic, sharply observed songwriting, and their second album The Young and the Hopeless put them on the global map in a big way. That record sold close to five million copies worldwide, driven by 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous' topping both pop and rock charts, and it earned a triple platinum RIAA certification in the US alone. Their follow up, The Chronicles of Life and Death, went platinum and showed a noticeably darker side. Good Charlotte kept evolving through the dance punk flavored Good Morning Revival and then circled back to straight up pop punk with Cardiology in 2010. After a hiatus they returned with Youth Authority in 2016 and Generation Rx in 2018, proving their fanbase never really went away. The band consists of twins Joel and Benji Madden alongside Paul Thomas on bass and Billy Martin on guitar and keyboards.
