About
Also known as: Tamino-Amir Moharam Fouad
Tamino carries an unmistakable weight in his voice, something that makes a lot more sense when you know he is the grandson of Egyptian singer and movie star Muharram Fouad. The Belgian Egyptian artist from Antwerp builds his sound somewhere between alternative pop and indie rock, coloured by Arabic textures and a falsetto that drew comparisons to Jeff Buckley early in his career. His 2018 debut album Amir featured the Brussels based Arabic orchestra Nagham Zikrayat, a group made up largely of refugees from Iraq and Syria, and landed in The Independent's top 10 albums of that year. The BBC called it "The New Sound of The Nile". His second album Sahar arrived in 2022, and his third, Every Dawn's a Mountain, followed in early 2025. That record includes Sanctuary, a collaboration with American singer songwriter Mitski. He has also crossed into fashion, appearing alongside Gisele Bündchen in Missoni's SS19 campaign and featuring in a Paolo Roversi shoot for Vogue Hommes.
